Ingredients

Flan Ingredients

  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 can sweetened condensed milk
  • 1 can evaporated milk
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 5 large eggs beaten

Caramel Sauce

  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup water

Instructions

  1. 1 Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. 2 In a saucepan over medium heat, combine 1 cup of sugar and 1/4 cup of water. Stir until the sugar dissolves and the mixture turns a golden caramel color.
  3. 3 Quickly pour the caramel into a 9-inch round baking dish, tilting the dish to coat the bottom evenly. Set aside to cool and harden.
  4. 4 In a large mixing bowl, combine the sweetened condensed milk, evaporated milk, vanilla extract, and beaten eggs. Mix until smooth and well-blended.
  5. 5 Pour the milk and egg mixture over the hardened caramel in the baking dish.
  6. 6 Place the baking dish in a larger roasting pan. Fill the roasting pan with enough hot water to come halfway up the sides of the baking dish.
  7. 7 Carefully transfer the pan to the preheated oven. Bake for about 60 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center of the flan comes out clean.
  8. 8 Remove the flan from the water bath and let it cool at room temperature. Then refrigerate for at least 4 hours or overnight.
  9. 9 To serve, run a knife around the edges of the flan to loosen it. Place a serving plate on top of the baking dish and invert it to release the flan onto the plate.
