Ingredients

Fondue Ingredients

  • 1 clove garlic halved
  • 1 cup dry white wine
  • 8 ounces Gruyère cheese grated
  • 8 ounces Emmental cheese grated

Crusty Bread

  • 1 loaf crusty French bread cut into cubes

Instructions

  1. 1 Rub the inside of a fondue pot with the cut sides of the garlic clove. Discard the garlic.
  2. 2 Pour the wine and lemon juice into the pot and bring to a gentle simmer over medium heat.
  3. 3 In a medium bowl, toss the grated Gruyère and Emmental cheeses with the cornstarch until evenly coated.
  4. 4 Gradually add the cheese mixture to the simmering wine, stirring constantly in a figure-eight motion until the cheese is fully melted and smooth.
  5. 5 Season the fondue with a pinch of nutmeg and white pepper, then continue to stir until the mixture is thick and creamy.
  6. 6 Reduce the heat to low and keep the fondue warm, stirring occasionally to maintain a smooth consistency.
  7. 7 Serve the cheese fondue with cubes of crusty French bread for dipping.
