Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 1 whole duck cleaned and patted dry
  • 2 tablespoons Chinese five-spice powder
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon ginger grated
  • 3 cloves garlic minced

Hoisin Sauce

  • 1/2 cup hoisin sauce
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 1 tablespoon honey
  • 1 teaspoon rice vinegar

Instructions

  1. 1 Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. 2 Combine the Chinese five-spice powder, soy sauce, honey, rice vinegar, grated ginger, and minced garlic in a bowl to make a marinade.
  3. 3 Rub the marinade all over the duck, making sure to get it inside the cavity as well. Let it marinate in the refrigerator for at least 2 hours or overnight for best results.
  4. 4 Place the duck on a rack in a roasting pan. Roast in the preheated oven for 1.5 hours, basting occasionally with the pan juices.
  5. 5 While the duck is roasting, prepare the hoisin sauce by combining all sauce ingredients in a bowl and mixing well.
  6. 6 After 1.5 hours, increase the oven temperature to 400°F (200°C) and roast for an additional 20-30 minutes, or until the skin is crispy and golden brown.
  7. 7 Remove the duck from the oven and let it rest for 10 minutes before carving.
  8. 8 Serve the crispy duck with the prepared hoisin sauce on the side.
