Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1/2 pound ground pork
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs plain
  • 1/4 cup Parmesan cheese grated
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper ground
  • 1 unit egg beaten
  • 4 units sub rolls toasted
  • 8 slices provolone cheese

Marinara Sauce

  • 2 cups tomato sauce
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon oregano dried
  • 1/2 teaspoon basil dried
  • 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes

Instructions

  1. 1 Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. 2 In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, ground pork, breadcrumbs, Parmesan cheese, Italian seasoning, salt, black pepper, and beaten egg. Mix until well combined.
  3. 3 Form the mixture into 1 1/2-inch meatballs and place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  4. 4 Bake the meatballs in the oven for 20-25 minutes, or until cooked through.
  5. 5 While the meatballs are baking, prepare the marinara sauce. In a saucepan, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add minced garlic and sauté until fragrant, about 1 minute.
  6. 6 Stir in the tomato sauce, sugar, oregano, basil, and red pepper flakes. Simmer on low heat for 10-15 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  7. 7 Once the meatballs are done, add them to the marinara sauce and let them simmer together for another 5 minutes.
  8. 8 To assemble the subs, place 4-5 meatballs in each toasted sub roll. Spoon additional marinara sauce over the meatballs.
  9. 9 Top each sub with two slices of provolone cheese. Place the subs on a baking sheet and bake for 3-4 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
  10. 10 Serve the meatball subs hot, with additional marinara sauce on the side if desired.
